PADUCAH, Ky. (AP) - A jury in western Kentucky has finished deliberating for the day in the sentencing of a former soldier convicted of raping an Iraqi teenager and murdering the girl and her family.

Deliberations began Wednesday afternoon in Paducah, but ended at 5 p.m. CDT with no sentence. Deliberations are scheduled to resume Thursday morning.

Earlier Wednesday, federal prosecutor Brian Skaret told the jury that former Pfc. Steven Dale Green set himself up for a death sentence because of the brutality of the March 2006 killing spree.

But defense attorney Scott Wendelsdorf said Green's family and the military failed him, leading him down the path to the killings.
