PRESIDIO COUNTY - Border Patrol agents with the Marfa sector have rescued a woman who was missing in rugged Presidio County and near death.

The woman was part of a group of six illegal immigrants who were heading back to Mexico in Presidio County.

Border Patrol agents rescued three men from the party on Wednesday. The woman was found in a canyon creek bed around 7:00 Thursday night. Agents had to carry the woman out of the canyon.

A DPS helicopter took her to Alpine for medical treatment, but she was later transferred to Odessa.

The woman is severely dehydrated and suffering from kidney failure.

When Border Patrol agents rescued the three men, they discovered a fire in the area. The Musgrave Canyon Fire has now burned 1500 acres and is 50% contained. The fire is burning 17 miles southwest of Valentine.

The Texas Forest Service says the fire was started by illegal aliens being pursued by Border Patrol agents, but the Border Patrol could not confirm that. The Border Patrol tells NewsWest9 they are not sure what started the fire.
