WEST TEXAS - Fire crews are battling several fires started by lightning strikes Thursday evening.

The Texas Forest Service says the lightning strikes, which came with little or no rain, have caused fires in Jeff Davis County, Upton County and near the Pecos/Terrell County line.

The Texas Forest Service has staged numerous aviation and ground resources to respond quickly to the fires.

One of the fires began around 3:30 Friday morning near the Brewster/Jeff Davis County line. The fire is off Highway 118. The Alpine and Fort Davis Fire Departments are on the scene.
