MIDLAND - Holy Cross Lutheran Church is just one of many churches in Midland that has fallen victim to the rash of burglaries.
"13 churches here in Midland and two in the county have been burglarized," Sgt. David Garcia with the Midland Police Department, said.
The burglars smashed a security light and a stained glass window to gain entry into the Church.
Electronics and cash seem to be the target of the break-ins across town.
"We believe there are two groups of people. We are gathering evidence and they will be caught," Garcia said.
Midland Police are urging congregations to take precautions such as writing down serial numbers and marking property.
With summer approaching burglaries usually spike, in fact since we talked with Sgt. Garcia another robbery was reported bringing the total to 16 in both the city and county.
"You know a Church used to be sacred ground. They were open all night, but that has just really changed," Garcia said.
