Voters Say "No" to New Jail in Gaines County

GAINES COUNTY - Voters in Gaines County have said no to a new jail. A bond that would have funded the facility was shot down by 58% of Gaines County voters Saturday.

Gaines County's current jail is too small to meet the needs of the growing county and officials are paying other counties to take inmates.

Gaines County hoped to build a jail without an election, but a petition by area residents put the issue on the ballot Saturday.

There is no word yet what Gaines County will do about the current jail's overcrowding problems.
