STANTON - After years of planning and raising money, a new senior citizen center is starting to take shape.
"They are a very fast growing population and we are very limited in our current facility," Sally Poteet, Director of the Stanton Senior Citizen Center, said.
The current center is more than 30 years old and growing outdated she explained
"It is an old train depot. They moved over here in the late 70's," Poteet said.
The center now serves meals using the hospitals kitchen but the new facility will boast its own kitchen and cook.
"You know in a small town the going out to eat options are really just limited," Bud Lindsey, President of the Foundation, said.
The ultimate goal of the center is simple.
"Just provide them a reason to get up in the morning and go out," Poteet said.
"The goal really is to keep a senior living independently as long as possible," Lindsey said.
The center which will be five times larger than the current facility is expected to be complete in August or September.
