ODESSA - An Ector County jury has recommended the death sentence for convicted killer Michael "Spider" Gonzales.

This is now the second jury to recommend death for Gonzales. He was convicted in 1995 for killing his elderly neighbors Manuel and Merced Aguirre and sentenced to death.

Gonzalez took the stand in his own defense saying to the jury, "Go ahead and kill me.  It doesn't matter to me."

The Aguirre family choked up with tears as the sentence was handed down.  One family member even called Gonzales a "coward."

"This has been a part of our lives for the last 15 years. Our family and myself, we're all happy with the verdict the jury handed down.  Its been a long process, and we're just happy its come to this now and we can start to heal," Ricardo Aguirre said.

Gonzales has been sentenced to death by lethal injection.  The Aguirre family tells NewsWest 9 they will be there when Gonzales is put to death.

The date of the execution has not yet been determined.
