Tatum Man Arrested for Murder

TATUM, N.M. (AP) - State police have arrested a 27-year-old Tatum man for the murder of another man on a ranch near the southeastern New Mexico community.

Jesse Freeman faces an open count of murder and one count of tampering with evidence in connection with the death of 50-year-old Robert Fleetwood. Freeman has been booked into the Lea County jail.

Freeman's arrest comes after two weeks of investigation by state police, the Lea County Sheriff's Department and the state Adult Probation and Parole Office. Fleetwood was found dead by a friend in the early morning hours of April 21st.

Authorities had said Fleetwood died from a gunshot wound to the head.
