Midland ISD Suspends Events, Travel

MIDLAND - The Midland ISD is taking extra precautions to keep kids and staff members healthy as the swine flu continues to spread.

The district has suspended all out-of-district travel including events, field trips, performances, faculty and staff travel and student competitions. The suspension will remain in effect until further notice.

MISD schools are still in session and will continue as usual unless further action is warranted. After-school practices for MISD students are still allowed.

MISD Executive Director of Athletics Todd Howey is on his way to Lubbock to meet with other District 3-5A athletic directors to discuss rescheduling events.

MISD stresses that there are no confirmed cases of swine flu in the district.

The district is also taking extra precautions to ensure sanitary classrooms and work spaces. Custodians are making a concerted effort to clean surfaces like desks with a disinfectant meant to control germs and viruses in schools.
