Feds Renew Air Service Contract for Eddy County

CARLSBAD, N.M. (AP) - The U.S. Department of Transportation is renewing New Mexico Airlines' contract to provide air service to Carlsbad.

Sen. Jeff Bingaman, D-N.M., made the announcement Tuesday. He says commercial air service is vital to the economic future of Carlsbad and the rest of Eddy County.

Under the contract, New Mexico Airlines will continue to provide two round trips each weekday and each weekend to Albuquerque International Sunport under the essential air service program for an annual subsidy rate of $1.04 million.

The two-year contract will take effect on June 1.  New Mexico Airlines also provides air service to Hobbs.
