Border Patrol Agents in Marfa Seize 900 Pounds of Marijuana

MARFA, Texas - An Amarillo man is in jail after he was arrested for trying to smuggle 910 pounds of marijuana through a Border Patrol checkpoint.

A Marfa Station K-9 alerted to a horse trailer being towed behind the man's pickup at the Highway 67 Checkpoint south of Marfa. Agents searched the trailer and discovered a compartment containing 193 bundles of marijuana. Also in the trailer were two horses and a dog.

The man driving the truck was a Legal Permanent Resident of the United States originally from Mexico. He was accompanied by a woman who is a U.S. citizen.

The marijuana has a street value of $728,480.

The driver, the vehicles, and the marijuana were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration for prosecution. The horses and the dog were turned over to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The woman was released.
