AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - The Texas House has given its stamp of approval to teen tanning legislation that - under recent changes - would prevent many teens from entering a tanning bed.

The bill approved Wednesday would ban anyone under 16½ years old from using an indoor tanning bed in Texas tanning salons - a change from an earlier version that would have allowed teens under 18 to use the beds with a doctor's note.

The measure was approved 127-19.

Current Texas law requires a parent's permission for all teens between 13 and 18 years old. Some lawmakers and tanning organizations say the decision to use tanning beds should stay with the parents.

The measure now moves to the Senate. Texas is one of 17 states currently considering stricter regulation for teens using indoor tanning.
