ODESSA - The Department of Public Safety's Dive and Recovery Team is looking for a murder weapon in Odessa.

They're looking for the gun that killed 20-year-old Rey Valdez back in October.

The Ector County Sheriff's Office tells NewsWest Nine, they got a tip the weapon might be in Buffalo Wallow across from Music City Mall.

We're told the divers started searching Wednesday morning around 8:30.

Valdez was shot killed on October 9th at a home in 7200 block of Hughes, north of Odessa.

Autopsy results indicate Valdez died from a gunshot wound to the chest from a small caliber weapon.

Seven people have been arrested in connection with that murder.

All seven remain in the Ector County Detention Center charged with engaging in organized criminal activity.

Deputies say the dive team will be back out on Thursday if they don't find the gun on Wednesday.
