MIDLAND - Community service is helping some students pay their tuition.
More than 500 students are going to Midland College on what's called the "Legacy Scholarship."
It pays their tuition and fees, and in return they are required to do 40-hours of community service this semester.
They can write an essay on that service and get $500 more dollars to put toward College costs.
Those five essay winners were honored on Thursday .
The "Midland Legacy Scholarship" is co-sponsored by the Abell-Hanger Foundation, the Helen Greathouse Charitable Trust, and the Chaparral Foundation.
