City of McCamey Wins State Environmental Award

MCCAMEY - McCamey has won an award for keeping the town clean. The city is one of 9 state-wide winners of the 2009 Governor's Community Achievement Award for outstanding community improvement.

McCamey will receive $65,000 for a landscaping project along the highway in town.

McCamey's Operation Pride and Keep McCamey Beautiful teamed up with local junior high and high school students to collect 179 bags of trash around local schools.

In all, the organizations removed 600 bags of debris from area streets, had four dilapidated buildings and 85 inoperable cars removed from the community in 2008.

Flower planters have also been placed in front of every business in town and red brick pavers have been placed along major streets.
