Wanted Missouri Man Arrested in Presidio

BOWLING GREEN, Mo. (AP) - A Missouri man has been caught in Texas over a fire that killed a housemate in Missouri.

Customs officials say 33-year-old Stephen Palmer was "yards away" from crossing into Mexico when Border Patrol agents captured him.  The fire Thursday in Gazette, Mo., killed 56-year-old Larry Moore. Arson is suspected.

Authorities say Palmer had been living with Moore for about six weeks and fled after the fire. Palmer late Saturday was stopped at the remote Presidio, Texas, port as officers and border patrol agents were doing routine inspections.

The 1995 Jeep Wrangler he was driving had been reported stolen in Kirksville, Mo. The Hannibal Mo. Courier-Post reports Palmer is a registered sex offender who changed his address to Moore's on Feb. 6th. Gazette is about 75 miles northwest of St. Louis.
