Big bucks are headed to West Texas. We're getting green to go "green".
The money is coming straight from the Obama stimulus package.
208-million dollars is headed to our state to be used for energy conservation projects and to help stimulate our economy.
Midland is set to get a little more than $997,000 dollars while Odessa is looking at about $900,000.
The cash can be used for projects like making city buildings, traffic lights, and street lights more energy efficient.
Other projects include capturing methane and greenhouse gas emissions from our landfills to produce energy.
There is one catch though, local leaders will be held accountable for making the investments quickly.
The idea is to create jobs and help the environment at the same time.
