ECTOR COUNTY - NewsWest 9 told you several weeks ago about the sky-rocketing numbers out of the Ector County Youth Detention Center, and now we've got some good news.
The number of West Texas teens behind bars has dropped.
The Detention Center has been operating at over capacity for quite a while with almost 50 kids, now they have 41.
Center officials tell NewsWest 9 that's because they sent several to the Texas Youth Commission.
While the numbers have dropped now, officials expect them to pick up again towards the end of the school year related with school expulsions.
Local police say because of the changing economy, they're continuing to see an increase in teen crime.
