Lubbock man killed in vehicle-pedestrian accident in Andrews

The man driving the truck attempted to take evasive action but was unable to avoid the pedestrian.

ANDREWS, Texas — A Lubbock man is dead following a crash in Andrews County, DPS reports.

Walter H. Black III, 56, was in the roadway of US Highway 385 just before 11 p.m. on May 12.

A 78-year-old man from Monahans was driving his truck south on the road when he saw Black in the roadway.

According to DPS, the man attempted to take evasive action, but was unable to and struck Black.

Black was pronounced dead at the scene.

DPS has not released any further information at this time and the investigation is still ongoing.
