NewsWest 9 is learning more about why Odessa's City Attorney Larry Long received a 30 day unpaid suspension.

City officials revealed it all has to do with harassment on the job, but they're not saying much else.

On Tuesday night, City Council members went into executive session for more than an hour, in part to discuss naming Leeann Rimer as the acting City Attorney.

Mayor Larry Melton gave a brief statement about respecting the privacy of the personnel matter, and said the issue would not be discussed any further after Tuesday night.

Long's 30 day suspension also includes 10 hours of sensitivity training.

"An investigation was coducted in accordance with the City's peronnel policies and procedures.  A complaint has been expeditiously and fully addressed.  After considering the face and circumstances known to date Mr. Long was suspended for a period of 30 days and will be required to complete 10 hours of sensitivity training," Odessa Mayor Larry Melton said.

Leeann Rimer has been serving as Assistant City Attorney, and will provide legal advice to the Ccouncil in Llong's absence.

An open records request on long's personnel records has been sent to the attorney general's office, and a decision about revealing those records will be made between 30 and 60 days.
