SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - State officials want New Mexicans to get out and enjoy the millions of acres of trees in the state's parks, open spaces and forests.
Gov. Bill Richardson has proclaimed Friday as Arbor Day in New Mexico.
The proclamation calls for New Mexicans to observe Arbor Day by calling attention to the need for trees and their proper care.
In 1891, the New Mexico Territorial Legislature established the observance of Arbor Day on the second Friday of each March.
