Amarillo High School has a new football coach. AISD announced Mel Maxfield will take over.
Maxfield coached 5A at the Fort Worth suburb of Burleson last season.
His team made the UIL playoffs but Arlington High knocked them out in the first round.
His teams made the playoffs five out of eight years while with Burleson.
Maxfield has coached texas high school football for 23 years, including 15 years at Forney outside of Dallas.
