MIDLAND, TX (KWES) - MISD has announced a partnership with the Young Women’s Preparatory Network to bring the district’s first college preparatory school for female students.

The MISD campus will be the ninth school in the YWPN network, with others in Austin, Dallas, Lubbock and San Antonio.

The school will be open in time for the 2019-2020 school year and will start with sixth and seventh graders. Each year following they will add a grade through high school.

YWPN has committed $1 million to find this new school. These funds will be used for extended-learning programs and a full-time college advisor.

The network is a public-private partnership that uses private donations to uplift public schools through support mentoring, college counseling needs and leadership training.

YWPN intends to provide an opportunity for young women to experience STEM-based education in a setting that operates outside of perceived societal gender bias and prepares them for college and professional careers.
