(KWES) - If you want to drink liquor during the holidays, you’ll have to buy it before Christmas and New Year’s Day.
Thanks to 1967 ruling, no person may sell or deliver liquor on Christmas Day. Sundays, Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day are also off the table.
“What if those holidays fall on a Sunday?” you may ask yourself.
Then the ban rolls into the following Monday. Meaning you can’t buy liquor until Tuesday.
Liquor sale bans date back to prohibition in the 1920s. Shortly after prohibition was lifted in 1933, Texas law makers created the Sunday rule in 1935.
And if you’re thinking of jumping ship, don’t do so just yet. It’s not just the Lone Star State with this rule, half the country bans liquor sales on Christmas Day.
