MIDLAND, TX (KWES) - More than 400 food items were donated to the food pantry at San Jacinto on December 17.

The generous donation came as the result of a food drive held by General Franks Elementary School.

During the drop off, dozens of students helped unload the donations from a school bus and then pack them into their new home at the food pantry.

Hot chocolate and cookies were served to those who helped out.

The San Jacinto food pantry was started at the beginning of the school year with the help of the West Texas Food Bank.

School officials say the pantry helps feed 40 to 50 people every week.

Students and any family members that live with them are allowed to take food from the food pantry once a week.
