MIDLAND, TX (KWES) - The City of Midland held a meet and greet for the two finalists in their search for a police chief on December 11.

The reception was held at the Midland Municipal Court.

Dozens of residents and several city officials attended the event.

The two finalists are Seth Herman and Phillip Smith Jr.

Seth Herman is a 23 year veteran of Midland PD and has served as Interim police chief since March after former chief Steve Henry was fired.

Phillip Smith Jr. has more than 30 years of experience in law enforcement and comes from New Mexico where he served as Chief of Roswell PD.

During the event, both candidates took time to tell NewsWest 9 why they have applied to be the top cop in the tall city.

“This is my home, the people who live in this community are my family, this department is my family, and I can't think of a more worthwhile cause than protecting and serving here,” said Herman.

“This is a law enforcement friendly state, and coming to a place where there is viable resources and a growing agency, its a very exciting opportunity,” said Smith Jr.

City officials say they hope to have a selection for police chief by December 14.
