MIDLAND, TX (KWES) -The City of Midland has received a $500,000 donation for the construction of a splash pad at Dennis the Menace Park.
The donation comes from XTO Energy, an ExxonMobil subsidiary.
“XTO was most attracted to this opportunity because of the historical significance of the park as well as the opportunity to support the City in weaving inclusive play into the fabric of the community,” stated Enrique Garcia, XTO Operations Manager.
The park has been under renovation for months and is expected to re-open in Spring 2019. The donation is expected to help have the splash pad open by Summer 2019.
“This donation has turned the dream of a splash pad at Dennis the Menace into a reality,” said Laurie Williams, Assistant Community Services Director.
The park was built in the 1950s and has since been a big part of the city’s identity, Mayor Jerry Morales said.
“Dennis the Menace Park is a Midland landmark," Morales said. "XTO’s support for revitalizing this treasured space shows their outstanding commitment to this community.”
