New fee on your water bill? Here’s what you need to know

MIDLAND, TX (KWES) - Midland residents might have noticed an extra charge on their water bill this month now that the approved drainage fee went into effect.

The purpose of this fee is to provide funding for more rain water drainage and prevent flooding.

Both residential and commercial properties will be divided by tiers, to see what tier you fall under click here.

Storm Water Drainage Fee takes effect in Midland

“We will probably generate about $2.2 million dollars a year and it’s going to help us start looking at those projects and getting them done,” Jose Ortiz, City of Midland said.

If you believe your storm water utility fee was calculated in error, you may take the following steps:

First, request an Administrative Review by contacting the Stormwater Utility Administrator, who will review the account information, billing tier, and verify roofline square footage.

If an error is found, the billing tier and utility account will be updated and you will be notified of findings.

If you disagree with the Administrative Review determination, you may send an appeal to the City Manager within 14 days of the notification of the decision being appealed. There are two options, you may request a hearing as part of the appeal, or a “paper-based” appeal session may be held.

To initiate an appeal, contact the Stormwater Administrator at 432-685-7357.
